Air travel up 19 % in July

2010-08-12

In July, there was a sharp increase in the number of passengers at Göteborg Landvetter Airport. Some 361,800 passengers flew into and out of the airport in July, an increase of as much as 19 per cent compared to the same month last year.

For the year to date, the number of passengers at Göteborg Landvetter increased by seven per cent compared to the same period in 2009. So far this year, 2,244,000 passengers have travelled into and out of the airport. International travel largely accounts for the rise, the result of a broader and more attractive offering of destinations and a somewhat stronger economy.

“We are delighted with the increase, and a number of new direct routes are about to start up,” says Olle Sundin, Airport Manager. “This autumn, easyJet is starting service to a number of destinations, including London and Berlin, and a little later in the autumn British Airways will once again operate at the airport. Next summer, we will also have expanded service to Iceland and Reykjavik, when Icelandair begins flying into and out of Gothenburg again. More non-stop routes not only mean that the people of Gothenburg have greater opportunities to travel the world but also that the city and the region are accessible to more people.”
