“It is with great pleasure that we welcome DB Schenker Logistics to Airport City. Together with them and other establishments to come, we are linking people, trade and business in the region with the rest of the world. In this way, we are contributing to continued growth for all of western Sweden,” says Olle Sundin, Airport Director at Göteborg Landvetter.
DB Schenker Logistics is bringing together four of its existing operations in Gothenburg at Airport City. The new logistics facility covers 31,000 square metres in the initial phase, with potential to expand a further 15,000 square metres.
“Having such a strong brand like DB Schenker choose to set up operations at Airport City confirms how attractive the airport’s location is to companies that want to enhance their position in the region,” says Davis Bergström, Manager of Property and Commercial Services at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.
The unique location next to an international airport combined with access to land that is ready for development and allows large volumes were what made Schenker decide to set up operations at Airport City.
“This investment will make us more efficient and more flexible. The airport is a perfect location for us. It raises our quality and degree of service. Over the long term, we expect to employ 150 to 200 people at the facility,” says Mats Olsson, Managing Director of Schenker Logistics AB.
Construction is expected to be completed in late summer 2011. Bockasjö AB, which owns the land, is in charge of construction and property development and will follow green building standards. The criteria for green building include reducing the property’s energy consumption by 25% according to the building regulations of the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning. One objective of green building is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
”We are really delighted about the collaboration with Bockasjö AB. Working with such a dynamic property development company is inspiring to western Sweden’s Airport City,” Mr Bergström says.
Airport City will consist of four operational areas: shopping/experiences, logistics, offices and hotel/conference facilities. Porsche Center set up operations in autumn 2009 in the area of shopping/experiences. With the establishment of DB Schenker Logistics, Airport City has another pillar of support.
